I know that local desktop search tools are available. What I'm talking about is a world where my data is in multiple places (home computer, phone, laptop, cloud). I want to be able find and access that data from anywhere! Is that too much to ask? :)

Re: What if I could organise and search all my stuff?

It sounds rather simple - Google Desktop should catalogue and index your Google Docs and Apps if you want it to. Problem solved!!?

BTW - I love the drawing. It looks like a person with long arms holding up a tray of food.

Re: Panorama Me

Looks good, mate! Maybe they should have gone outside? I'm one to talk though. I don't know how long I spend on a computer each week experimenting with this stuff :)

Re: What happened to the Internet?

Thanks for the trip down memory lane....IRC - it's been a while!

It does feel like there is a new wave, but I'm not sure the title does it justice. Just using Facebook to stay in contact with friends and find old friends from school has been a 'social' success.

I agree that I'm not sure how it all fits together, and I think the diehards are the IRC people of old - those with a preference for technology.

That being said, the new technologies out there are making it eaier to integrate so much that anyone can get into it. Having your parents online, or in my case, an old friend's mother reach out to me on Facebook are example of it bridging the gap and becoming more of a phenomenon.

This convergence is fun -- but it also can feel anti-social. I've found myself looking at Twitter/FB/etc instead of reaching out to people. I guess there is a level of interaction required, or else it is less 'social' than expected.

My 2 cents...

Re: Make Google Reader work for you!

Thanks! Further developments (e.g. two other people being sick at Marty and Em's since then) suggest that it may have been a stomach bug. The dodgy sausage roll just looked like the likely suspect! Anyway I made it and I did pass a bakery the other day and entertained a sausage roll :)

Re: Melbourne Bound

WOW! With that said, I ignore emails that weren't specifically addressed to me from someone I know. I'm not sure it is a fight worth fighting. The answer has to leapfrog our dependence on diesel and go to alternative sources. After 100 years of that, however, most of the cost will once again be tax. It is a fact of life.

Re: Food, glorious food

Apparently no-one gives a stuff about beer-can chicken. It is really easy and the best paella I have ever made. On par with the best spanish restaurant in Melbourne. I also made the same recipe but with some pan fried chicken pieces instead of scallops and I put uncooked mussels on top for the extra 8 min in the oven. Fabulous.
